impracticable and a new Agreement was made on July
26th 1904 between the two Companies and the Chinese
Telegraph Administration (see Eastern Extension Tele-
graph Company, March 27th 1905, Confidential) This
Agreement was formally approved by His Majesty's
Minister at Peking. The General Post Office was
consulted by this Office in respect of this action,
but not the Colonial Office, and there is no record
of the Foreign Office having had any communication
with the Colonial Office on the subject.
The Joint Purse Agreement of July 11th, 1896
and the Agreement of April 23rd, 1901 are printed
in Hertslet's China Treaties, Volume II, p.p. 1140
and 1174. The Agreement of July 26th, 1904 will
be found as an enclosure to the Eastern Extension
Telegraph Company's letter of March 27th 1905.
